Working with Level 3 Communications, now Digital Realty, CC&F transformed a handful of 1950’s single story industrial buildings into one of greater Boston’s first fully modern data centers. Collaborating with Needham, CC&F created innovative zoning features for the development of the project which included 16 MW of backup generation housed in the building, a 70,000 gallon underground fuel storage tank, a 400,000 gallon underground water storage tank, and robust HVAC systems. Unlike many of its industry brethren, the building features a brick and glass skin accented by a pre-cast medallion in the form of a silicon chip. Today, the projects serves the secure on-line data center needs of a wide variety of companies, including some of Boston’s most prominent medical institutions.
